Saturdays are for sleeping.

You know I’d love to be able to say that I’m a dynamo but I keep getting the reminder that the reserves of energy draw down ever further with each passing day.

There was a time when I could go out after work and meet up and have drinks or dinner but I find now I really just want to get home. There is so little time left in the day sandwiched around work that it’s hard to get even the smallest of chores done.

I just find myself exhausted much of the time and part of that has to do with stress. Stress from work, it sucks the life out of you.

I did help do setup for the company Halloween party, I convinced my long time friend to sign up too so we could grab a bite afterwards. I can hardly believe were working together again after all this time. It’s really amazing. I mean we first met almost 30 years ago now and worked together and became friends and here we are working together again.

He’s unique in this business because over the course of his life, he’s only had TWO JOBS!

I’m really fascinated and have a lot of respect for him. He’s good at what he does but there’s more to keeping a job than that. He is one of those people that comes in early each and every day. He leaves on time but he’s always one of the first in. He has a good work ethic too and there was a time when he was in charge of his department but he’s not any longer which makes a big difference to him in some ways but he still has a manager’s mentality.

We went out and he was complaining about some of the other people in his department and the things they get away with but as I said to him, I try not to concern myself in what others do. It’s not my business and I can’t control those things. The only things I can control are my own work and how I’m treated.

I am moving away from talking about work but my friend really is just AMAZING!

I mean he’s been with this company over 23 years, to me that’s just astounding. I know him and he just makes it look easy. He shows up early, he does a great job, they laid him off but they did finally call him back after six months. It was such a shitty thing they did to him but I think he liked the break at least because it was something he wasn’t used to and he was able to weather the storm.

I am hoping never to be in the office on anything resembling a regular basis ever again but I have to say if there was anything I did miss it’s being around him, having lunch together or walking around and just chatting. One of the few good things about the job was being able to reconnect again and realize this is a person I’ve know for 30 years.

There’s a lot he can still teach me too!
